The invention concerns an open web element with masking effect, in particular for making suspended temporary ceilings. Said web element consists of stacked thin material strips (11), assembled via securing transverse lines (13), distributed at a pitch on the sides of each strip (11) and offset from one strip side to the next in intermediate positions. The strips (11) are designed to be extended in the longitudinal direction (B) substantially perpendicular to the stacking plane (A) to form a web stretched in accordance with an extension of the strips (11) and constituting a cellular structure wherein the sides of the cells (12) with deformable quadrilateral cross-section, are formed by the segments of the strips (11) included between the securing lines (13).
