A communications jack includes: a dielectric mounting substrate (144) ; and a plurality of contact wires (112), each of the contact wires having a contact segment (119a-119h), a compensating segment (121a-121h) in electrical connection with the contact segment, and a base (128) in electrical connection with the compensating segment and mounted in the mounting substrate. The contact segments are generally transversely aligned and parallel with each other. The contact segments are arranged in pairs. The compensating segments are configured and arranged such that differential to common mode crosstalk generated between the contact segments of the second and third pairs is opposite in polarity to the differential to common mode crosstalk generated between the compensating segments of the second and third pairs.
