Ballast Tamping Machine and Method for Tamping a Railway Track

Machine (1) for tie tamping (2) of rail track (4) has own frame (5) that moves by means of moving mechanisms (6). Tie-tamping units (13) are separated in cross direction of machine and have vibro-drives (20) and consist of pairs of heads (14, 15, 16, 17) placed one after another in long direction of machine, with two heads each (19). For tamping four ties simultaneously each tie-tamping unit (13) has four pairs of heads (14-17). Pairs of heads (14-17) of tie-tamping unit (13) are installed in long direction of machine in turn at smaller separation (x) from middle of machine (21) - for tamping under-tie bases (23) at inner side of rails - and at larger distance (y) from middle of machine (21) -for tamping under-tie bases (25) at outer side of rails. The invention provides as well method for simultaneous tamping four ties.
