The system has a splitter region (18) associated with a booster compressor of a turbofan engine and has surfaces internal to the turbofan engine subject to the inlet icing conditions. A resin (26) is molded along a leading edge of the region. A heating unit with a set of electric coils (24) is installed within the resin to prevent ice build-up on the splitter region or to remove ice from the region during icing conditions. An independent claim is also included for a method of preventing formation of ice on or removing ice from an internal surface of a turbofan engine.
