The invention relates to a method for recovering 1,3,5-triacetyl-2,4-dioxohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine. Said method comprises the following steps: a) the optionally insoluble fractions are eliminated from a solution containing 1,3,5-triacetyl-2,4-dioxohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine in a polar aprotic solvent; b) the obtained solution is concentrated, and the precipitate formed during said process is eliminated; and c) the precipitate is optionally recrystallized from a polar aprotic solvent. Also disclosed is a method for producing 1,3,5-triacetyl-2,4-dioxohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine from 2,4-dioxohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine, 1-acetyl-2,4-dioxohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine, or 1,5-diacetyl-2,4-dioxohexahydro-1,3,5-triazine by reacting the same with ketene.
