The present invention relates to substantially pure dermatan sulfate epimerase, to nucleic acid sequences encoding bovine dermatan sulfate epimerase and human dermatan sulfate epimerase, vectors comprising such nucleic acid sequences; host cells comprising said vectors, and methods of producing substantially pure dermatan sulfate epimerase. Furthermore the present invention relates to the use of a substantially pure DS epimerase for producing dermatan sulfate.
