An emulsion characterised in that it includes at least one animal or vegetable oil standoil and at least one natural emulsifier in an amount of 3 to 10 wt % based on the total weight of the emulsion, and in that it contains no organic diluent or solvent and no synthetic resin. Paints containing such an emulsion and the use thereof for protecting materials and decorating are also disclosed.
