A method for manufacturing tubular knitted articles which are closed at an axial end, particularly for manufacturing items of clothing such as caps or the like, with a double-cylinder circular knitting machine for hosiery or the like. An axial end of the article (1) is closed by providing, by means of needles (3) arranged in a needle cylinder (4, 5), an end portion (6) of the tubular article (1) as a continuation of an initial row of knitting (7) which is retained by needles (3) which are arranged in the other needle cylinder (5, 4) and are excluded from knitting during the production of the end portion (6) of the tubular article (1). At the end of the formation of the end portion (6) of the tubular article (1), one needle cylinder is rotated with respect to the other needle cylinder about the axis (10) of the needle cylinders and the final row of knitting (8) of the end portion (6) of the tubular article (1) is joined to the initial row of knitting (7).
