A high-contact structure for solid particles which comprises aggregates formed by the primary aggregation of primary particles made of a metal and/or metal oxide and the secondary aggregation of the primary-aggregation product, wherein the primary particles have an average particle diameter of 1-100 nm. In the pores formed by the primary-aggregation product, the volume of pores having a pore diameter in the range of [(average pore diameter of the pores)±50%] accounts for 60% or more of the total volume of the pores. This high-contact structure for solid particles can efficiently trap a wide range of solid particles including carbon-containing ingredients such as soot and PMs having a small particle diameter. It is extremely useful as an oxidation catalyst, etc.
