The invention provides a method for predicting final organic saturation in a porous medium comprising an aqueous phase, a gaseous phase and an organic liquid phase. The invention further provides a process for recovering an organic liquid phase from a subsurface formation or prediction of the amount of organic contaminants in the vadose zone, in which process use is made of a method according to the present invention for predicting the quantity of final organic liquid phase present in the subsurface formation.
