A reflective type polarizing film and an LCD using the same are provided to improve the brightness by increasing recycling efficiency of light, and simplify the manufacturing process by forming a circularly polarizing reflective layer of only three chiral nematic liquid crystal films. A circularly polarizing reflective layer uses three chiral nematic liquid crystal films(1) having small reflection bands corresponding to red, green, and blue spectra. A vertical alignment nematic liquid crystal layer(2) is deposited on the circularly polarizing reflective layer, and compensates for the variation of brightness and color due to birefringence characteristic of the circularly polarizing reflective layer. A 1/4 retardation film(3) is deposited on the vertical alignment nematic liquid crystal layer, and converts a circularly polarized light into a linearly polarized light. A linearly polarizing plate(4) is deposited on the 1/4 retardation film, and has a transmittance axis, which forms 45 degrees with respect to an optical axis of the 1/4 retardation film.
