A damper for controlling asymmetric damping performance using a magneto-rheological fluid is provided to secure the reliability of the operation by preventing the path opened by the check valve from intruding the path of the magnetic field. A damper for controlling asymmetric damping performance using a magneto-rheological fluid(23) is composed of a cylindrical cylinder(20) having a predetermined diameter and length; a hollow rod(30) fitted from the outside of the upper part of the cylinder to the inside of the cylinder and longitudinally formed with the cavity along the inner center line; a rod guide(40) fitted at the upper end of the cylinder to guide the hollow rod to keep the straight forward degree; a piston valve(50) fixed at the inner end of the hollow rod to divide the inside of the cylinder into a lower compression chamber(21) and an upper tension chamber(22) and to control the flow of the magneto-rheological fluid filled in the compression chamber and the tension chamber, wherein a path(58) is formed to flow the magneto-rheological fluid of the compression chamber to the tension chamber in the compression stroke; a check valve(60) installed in the path formed in the piston valve; and a diaphragm(70) extended and compressed according to the tension and compression stroke of the piston valve to compensate for the volume.
