DECODER AND DECODING METHOD FOR DECODING IRREGULAR LOW-DENSITY PARITY-CHECK CODES

A decoder and a decoding method for decoding irregular low-density parity-check codes are provided to reduce a time for decoding the irregular low-density parity-check codes by processing a bit update operation and a parity update operation by using a pipeline method. A plurality of (p1 x m1) bit processing units are arranged to perform a bit update operation for sequentially updating bit information corresponding to column positions included in respective rows of a first parity-check matrix and a second parity-check matrix. A plurality of p1 parity processing units are arranged to perform a parity update operation for updating parity information corresponding to row positions in p1 columns of each of the n1 column blocks of the first parity-check matrix. A controller is arranged to perform the parity update operation.
