Provided is a process for catalytic degradation of waste polystyrene, which uses a pyrophyllite catalyst to reduce the degradation temperature, to increase the selectivity to the degraded product, to recover high-added value chemicals, and to prevent environmental pollution. The process for catalytic degradation of waste polystyrene uses a catalyst comprising pyrophyllite that has a dioctahedron-like three-dimensional structure including an octahedron filled with alumina, has a Si/Al molar ratio of 4 or more, and includes water molecules as water of crystallization. The pyrophyllite is obtained by washing and drying natural pyrophyllite or by subjecting natural pyrophyllite to proton exchange.
