The material, made from interwoven weft (3) and warp (1, 2) yarns with loops, has one or more yarns in either direction made from an elastic polymer material, while the other yarns lying parallel to the elastic yarns are made so that the material can stretch in the appropriate direction(s). The elastic yarns can form anything from 10 to 90 per cent of the warp and/or weft yarns, typically 33 per cent, and all the looped yarns are of non-elastic material. The loops can also be cut to produce a cut pile effect.
