Method for handling of soft hand-off in CDMA mobile communication system

PURPOSE: A method for processing a soft handoff in a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) mobile communication system is provided to decide a type of a handoff call according to a progressing direction of a mobile station, when the mobile station exists in a present handoff area, and to process the handoff call according to the decided type, so as to suppress an unnecessary handoff call processing. CONSTITUTION: If a call is generated(S11), a CDMA mobile communication system retrieves whether the call is a handoff call(S12). If the call is a new call, the system retrieves the number of usable channels(S13). If usable channels do not exist, the system allocates a traffic channel to the call(S14). If the call is the handoff call, the system confirms a channel occupation state(S16). If an occupation rate of the traffic channel is below 90 percent, the system processes the call(S17). If the occupation rate is over 90 percent, the system searches a position of an MS(Mobile Station)(S18). The system checks the position(S19). If the MS is far from a target base station, the system decides the handoff call as a spurious handoff call(S23), and removes the handoff call(S24). If the call is decided as a real handoff call(S20), the system retrieves the number of usable channels(S21). If the usable channels do not exist, the system removes the handoff call(S24). If the usable channels exist, the system stands by the handoff call(S22).
