The environment assigns a network to a graphical diagram through signal flow arrows (66) based on a logic function of individual functional modules (51-65). An arrangement of the functional modules is automatically re-sorted in the network to provide a re-sorted graphical diagram (68). The arrangement is re-sorted based on predetermined hierarchical connections of block types with each other and/or predetermined signal flow direction within the network. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a graphical diagram (2) a simulation environment of a mathematical simulation program (3) a method for creating a graphical diagram.
