A display apparatus storing data in different compression formats and a method of controlling the display apparatus are provided to simultaneously store the data in different compression formats to rapidly transmit the data to a mobile device. A display apparatus(201) includes a multiplexer(207), a storage unit(208), and a demultiplexer(209). The multiplexer combines data in a first compression format and data in a second compression format into a single stream. The storage unit stores the combined single stream. The demultiplxer extracts only data in a specific compression format from the stored stream. The data in the first compression format is an MPEG2 transport stream and the data in the second compression format is an MPEG4 transport stream.
