An aluminum alloy billet which is excellent in strength, high temperature creep resistance and heat resistance, has a non-black surface, and particularly is suitable for a heat roll, and a heat roll manufactured using the same are provided. An aluminum alloy billet for a heat roll comprises an aluminum alloy containing 0.97 to 1.50 mass% of Mn, 0.50 to 2.50 mass% of Mg, 0.20 to 1.40 mass% of Cu, 0.20 to 1.00 mass% of Fe, 0.01 to 0.50 mass% of Ti, and 0.0001 to 0.01 mass% of Be, with the balance being Al and inevitable impurities. The aluminum alloy further contains one or more of 1.00 mass% or less of Si, 0.50 mass% or less of Cr, and 0.50 mass% or less of Zr. The aluminum alloy billet for a heat roll has a diameter of 5 inch(12.7 cm). The aluminum alloy billet for a heat roll comprises grains having an average grain diameter of 1 mm or less. A heat roll is manufactured using a billet comprising an aluminum alloy containing 0.97 to 1.50 mass% of Mn, 0.50 to 2.50 mass% of Mg, 0.20 to 1.40 mass% of Cu, 0.20 to 1.00 mass% of Fe, 0.01 to 0.50 mass% of Ti, and 0.0001 to 0.01 mass% of Be, with the balance being Al and inevitable impurities.
