A dimethyl ether producing catalyst that can produce dimethyl ether from syngas consisting of hydrogen and carbon monoxide while stably maintaining a high carbon monoxide conversion rate for a long time, a preparation method of the dimethyl ether producing catalyst, and a method for producing dimethyl ether using the dimethyl ether producing catalyst are provided. A catalyst for producing dimethyl ether is Cu/Zn-ilerite and Zn/Cu-ilerite obtained by impregnating a Zn pillared ilerite catalyst and a Cu-pillared ilerite catalyst with Zn and Cu respectively. The Cu and Zn are mixed with each other in a mixing ratio of 1:1 to 3. A method for preparing the dimethyl ether producing catalyst comprises: subjecting a layered silica with sodium ions to hydrothermal synthesis for 3 to 5 days; substituting the sodium ions of the layered silica for hydrogen ions in the solution by using a hydrochloric acid solution or a nitric acid solution; expanding a gap between layers of the silica using amines with a long chain such as octyl amine; and injecting desired metals such as Cu and Zn into the gap between the layers, and firing the layered silica at a high temperature of about 650 to 750 deg.C.
