A method and a device for formatting data are provided to format a test result including a notified data type, improve a software supporting function, increase data stability/usability, and reduce the need for a user to update a lookup table. The data associated with the test result is automatically compared with the notified data type associated with a test result type to determine the most test result type matched with the test result(102). The data associated with the test result is automatically formatted by a data format rule associated with the best test result type(104). The notified data type includes at least one parameter test data type and at least one test data type. The parameter test data type is defined by the data including a test measurement value and a test limit value.
