A field emission backlight, a field emission display device having the backlight, and a method for manufacturing the backlight are provided to reduce a manufacturing cost of the backlight by reducing voltage applied between first and second electrode portions. A field emission backlight(300) includes an upper substrate(100) and a lower substrate(200). The upper substrate includes an upper transparent substrate, a transparent electrode(120) which is formed on the upper transparent substrate, and a fluorescent portion(130) which is formed on the transparent electrode. The lower substrate includes a lower transparent substrate(210), first and second electrode portions, and an electron emission portion(240). A receiving groove is formed on a surface of the lower transparent substrate which faces the upper substrate. The first electrode portion(220) is formed on one surface of the lower transparent substrate. The second electrode portion(230) is formed on a bottom surface of the receiving groove, so that the second electrode portion is apart from the first electrode portion by a predetermined distance. The electron emission portion is formed on an upper surface of at least one of the first and second electrode portions and emits electrons, when an electric field is formed between the first and second electrode portions.
