A receiver and a transmitter for detecting a ranging code by using a common ranging code in an OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system and a method for detecting the ranging code are provided to detect effectively the ranging code by suppressing influence on an MAI and accurately compensating phase value according to ST0 of each user. A CP/CS removing block(37) removes a CP(Cyclic Prefix) and a CS(Cyclic Suffix) from a received symbol. An S/P(Series/Parallel) converter(38) converts the symbol to parallel information on a time axis. A FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) unit(39) performs an FFT on the OFDMA symbol on the time axis, such that the OFDMA symbols are extracted for respective sub-channels. An estimator(41) uses a common ranging code, which is allocated to a common ranging sub-channel to estimate an MAI(Multiple Access Interference) based on an STO(Symbol Timing Offset) among users. An interference compensator(42) compensates for the MAI component for the respective ranging sub-channels.
