A method for controlling hybrid mode in a CDMA system and a method for transferring to hybrid mode in a mobile terminal using the same are provided to improve a data rate and minimize a call drop in an EV-DO(Evolution Data Optimized) traffic state by controlling the hybrid mode changeover cycle of a mobile terminal. If a call connection request message is received from a mobile terminal(S101), a 1x EV-DO system transmits a traffic channel assignment message to the mobile terminal, including a data slot cycle index field value which indicates the 1x system changeover cycle condition of the mobile terminal(S103). A 1x system, if either an access request message or a hybrid mode changeover message is received from the mobile terminal, transmits a system parameter message, which contains a selective hybrid mode field value and a MAX slot cycle index field value, to the mobile terminal(S105).
