A method for preparing an alpha-olefin-acrylate-norbornene terpolymer in the presence of a Lewis acid is provided to allow application of a mild condition of a low temperature and low pressure, and to obtain a desired terpolymer having easily controllable physical properties and a relatively high glass transition temperature. A method for preparing an alpha-olefin-acrylate-norbornene terpolymer comprises a step of polymerizing a monomer mixture containing an alpha-olefin, acrylate and norbornene in the presence of a Lewis acid by using a radical initiator. The Lewis acid comprises at least one metal cation selected from the group consisting of scandium, titanium, vanadium, chrome, manganese, iron, cobalt, copper, zinc, boron, aluminum, yttrium, zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, cadmium, rhenium and tin.
