Provided is carbon black surface-treated with a benzene compound useful for preparing a carbon black dispersion composition for a black matrix, having excellent adhesion, uniformity and resolution of a black matrix pattern and showing no over-development phenomenon. The carbon black for a black matrix is carbon black surface-treated with a benzene compound represented by the following formula 1 and having a dibutyl phthalate(DBP) oil absorption of 30ml/100g to 100ml/100g. In the formula 1, X represents H, COOH, COONa, Ph, substituted Ph, SO3H, SO3Na, NO2, halide or a C1-C5 alkyl. The carbon black is preferably surface treated with 0.5-2.5 micromol/m^3 of the benzene compound.
