An apparatus and a method for receiving signals by using a variable LNA in a mobile communication base station are provided to improve reverse communication quality by additionally installing a variable LNA unit in a receiver of the base station, thereby minimizing cases that a call is disconnected or communication is disabled due to inferior sound quality of the call when a user attempts call connection in an elevator, within a building, and in an area where there is a plenty of simultaneous calls. An apparatus for receiving signals by using a variable LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) in a base station comprise the followings: a variable LNA unit(240) which receives a signal outputted from an LNA(230), perform the second amplification on the signal, and can control steps of an amplification degree at regular intervals; and a controller(260) which controls amplification degree of the variable LNA unit(240) at regular intervals within a range of 0dB to 10Db, calculates an optimum amplification degree where a reverse communication quality value of the mobile communication terminal is most superior, and sets the calculated optimum amplification degree as amplification degree of the variable LNA unit(240).
