A method and an apparatus for controlling synchronization of a downlink signal and an uplink signal in an OFDMA/TDD communication system are provided to determine the start and end points of the downlink and uplink signals through preambles, an FCH, an up_link map, and a down_link map of frames in order to control the synchronization of the downlink and uplink signals, thereby adaptively controlling the synchronization of the downlink and uplink signals even when the ratio of a downlink and an uplink is changed. A method for controlling synchronization of a downlink signal and an uplink signal in an OFDMA/TDD(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access/Time Division Duplex) communication system comprises the following steps of: searching each preamble which is equipped in plural received frames and selecting a preamble having the largest energy among plural preambles(510); determining a start point of a downlink signal of the frames on the basis of the selected preamble(520); determining an end point of the downlink signal by analyzing an FCH(Frame Control Header), an up_link map, and a down_link map(530); and controlling synchronization of the downlink signal and the uplink signal on the basis of the start point and end point of the determined downlink signal(540).
