A mobile communication terminal having a directory reorganizing function for an instant messenger service and a directory reorganizing method using the same are provided to enable a data editing unit to process plural directory records which are composed of at least one field extracted by a data extraction unit according to the control of a control unit, and store the processed directory record in a memory, thereby improving directory access speed and reorganizing the directory suitable for service characteristics. A mobile communication terminal(100) comprises the followings: a control unit(110) which controls general operations of the mobile communication terminal(100) to reorganize the directory of the mobile communication terminal(100) as the directory of an instant messenger; a memory(160); a field definition unit(120) which defines a directory record composed of at least one field required as the directory of the instant messenger according to the control of the control unit(110); a data extraction unit(130) which extracts corresponding information from the memory(160) on the basis of the field of the directory record defined by the field definition unit(120) according to the control of the control unit(110); and a data editing unit(140) which processes plural directory records according to a preset editing condition which are composed of at least one field extracted by the data extraction unit(130) according to the control of the control unit(110), and stores the processed directory record in the memory(160).
