An apparatus and a method for adjusting a luminance by using feedback in a TV receiver are provided to prevent the saturation of an image signal by adjusting an output luminance signal to have a certain reference value or less all the time through a feedback process of the output luminance signal. A storing unit(120) stores a lookup table for storing a correction quantity of a luminance according to a level of an output luminance signal outputted from a brightness adjusting unit(160). A control unit(130) controls the correction of a fed-back output luminance level by using the luminance correction quantity stored in the lookup table. A luminance correcting unit(140) reduces a level of the fed-back output luminance signal according to the luminance correction quantity transmitted by the control unit(130), and feeds back the reduced output luminance signal to a contrast correcting unit(150). If the level of the luminance signal outputted from the brightness adjusting unit(160) is higher than a certain reference value, an image processing unit(180) feeds back the output luminance signal to the contrast adjusting unit(150) through the luminance correcting unit(140).
