A method and an apparatus for photographing an image in a mobile communication terminal are provided to store an image signal input through a digital camera into high-quality image data during video telephony. A method for photographing an image in a mobile communication terminal for performing video telephony using a camera sensor which photographs an image and outputs an image signal includes determining whether there is a request for image photographing during the video telephony. The image signal output from the camera sensor module is extracted and stored during the video telephony when the request for the image photographing exists. The image signal is extracted during the video telephony according to the photographing request. The image signal is converted into image data for storage. The image data are stored.
