PURPOSE: A method for setting music for a bell sound by using an MP3 player module of a mobile terminal and a method for playing a bell sound by the MP3 player module are provided to allow a user to enjoy favored music whenever a bell sound is ringing and reduce a cost for downloading a bell sound melody through the Internet. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal awaits for a call connection request from the other party(311). When a call is set up between the mobile terminal and the other party(315), the mobile terminal checks whether a bell sound is set as default or as an MP3(321). If the bell sound is set as default, the mobile terminal outputs a melody set as default, or if the bell sound is set as the MP3, an MP3 play module plays a music file set as a bell sound(331-351). The mobile terminal transfers signals outputted from the MP3 player module to a speaker so that music can be played and outputted through the speaker and an earphone connector(361). When the mobile terminal is switched to a call mode, a communication controller stops the music being played and enters the call mode(371).
