PURPOSE: A link adaptation method using a HARQ(Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest) method and a system therefor are provided, which performs a power control and a data rate control in a reverse link efficiently, and prevents a waste of a transmission energy by controlling a power of a retransmitted signal. CONSTITUTION: A CRC(Cyclic Redundancy Check) addition block(10) and a tail bit addition block(14) add CRC and tail bit for error check to each information bit. Turbo encoders(11,15) encode outputs of the above blocks into turbo codes of 1/5 code rate. The first and the second interleaver(12,16) rearrange a sequence of the encoded code symbols. Symbol pruning blocks(13,17) generate a code symbol stream of a desired length by pruning a part of the rearranged code symbols. A serial connection block(18) generates one code symbol stream by multiplexing each pruned code symbol using a TDM(Time Division Multiplexing) method. The third interleaver(19) interleaves the multiplexed code symbol stream, and a modulator(20) modulates the interleaved code symbol stream. And a spreader(21) spreads the modulated code symbol stream using one Walsh code.
