FIELD: nuclear power engineering; power and chemical industries.;SUBSTANCE: proposed method that can be used for condensing steam and decontaminating steam-air mixture from radioactive and toxic materials involves production of steam-air flow, coolant supply thereto, production of vertical revolving cone in part of coolant volume separated by vertical cylindrical shell crossing coolant surface level, followed by passing steam-air mixture and coolant flow through vertical layer of cone liquid, bleeding decontaminated steam-air mixture into atmosphere, and discharging condensate and coolant to recirculation tank disposed above coolant surface level thereby affording their drainage to vertical cylindrical shell space and regulation of steam-air mixture flowrate before feeding coolant therein depending on steam-air mixture pressure within sealed locations of accident-confinement system by closing effective sectional area of steam-air mixture flow with aid of coolant surface level. Such method makes it possible to prevent destruction of accident confinement system locations as well as to maintain optimal correlation between steam-air mixture and coolant flowrates. Proposed device has cooling liquid pond accommodating vertical swirl chamber in the form of body of revolution whose bottom part communicates with bottom space of pond and is tangentially coupled with jet pumps disposed under cooling-liquid surface level and made in the form of cascade of hollow tangential blades with perforated holes on rear surface, their spaces communicating with bottom space of pond to form circulating-liquid canals; in addition, it is provided with recirculation tank and water seal; cooling liquid pond and vertical swirl chamber accommodating jet pumps and service lines are disposed in one of sealed locations of accident confinement system. Mechanical design of jet pumps and their correlation with remaining components have made it possible to dispense with all tubing.;EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of steam-air mixture decontamination and carrying capacity of device with added advantage of its reduced metal input and size.;4 cl, 4 dwg
