The apparatus has a thick layer resistor (9) having a conductive track (8) and a metal contact element which contacts the track. In operation the conductive track and the contact element are arranged such that they come into contact with the fluid fuel. The contact element is made of a gold based material with a reduced silver content such that any increase in contact resistance due to formation of silver on the rivet surface of the contact element is negligible. Independent claims also cover a fuel tank having such an apparatus.
