The seal device seals a tool shank (1) in a machine tool with clamp jaws (3) and a sealing washer (5). An O-ring is arranged in an annular circumferential groove (7) that runs in the sealing washer. The width and depth of the groove are larger than the cross-section of the O-ring, so that the sealing body can be moved axially in the groove and is forced against the wall of the groove and the tool shank by the internal pressure.
