Use of water-soluble alkane sulfonic acid (I) for increasing the permeability of underground carbonates (A) and/or carbonates containing petroleum and/or for forming natural gas-prominent rock. An independent claim is included for: a procedure to increase the permeability of underground, carbonate and/or carbonate containing petroleum and/or to form natural gas-prominent rock; and/or to dissolve carbonate and/or carbonate containing impurities in petroleum production, comprising: forming an acid formulation (comprising alkane sulfonic acid or aqueous alkane sulfonic acid) by at least drilling into the rock formation on pressing.
