A filter substrate is made of geological sediments and/or rock by sieving and or draining, and/or by breaking rock and or crushed stones or a combination. An aggregate is temporarily used for filtering and the substrate has an ammonium sorption concentration. If substrate is used for the cleaning of domestic and or commercial waste water the ammonium sorption concentration amounts to 0.5 mmol/kg, preferably more than 2 mmol/kg. Application of the substrate for the intermittent, sewage or rainwater treatment the ammonium sorption concentration amounts to at least 5 mmol/kg. An independent claim is included for the production of the above material.
