A sheet transfer cylinder, especially for a printing machine, has a lightweight hollow construction, for low inertial mass, and with an inner compensating system to counteract bending moments cause the cylinder to sag under its own weight. The compensating masses (4) rotate with the cylinder and are fitted to a support structure which presses against the inside of the cylinder.
