The catheter has a radiation source (1) attached in an area of a free end of the catheter for generating beta or gamma rays. A position indicating unit (2) is attached in an area for indicating position of the catheter in a three-dimensional coordinate system so that the position is determined based on an interaction with an external magnetic, electrical, or ultrasound field. The position indicating unit has a magnet or coil for generating magnetic field which interacts with the external magnetic field. An independent claim is also included for an imaging diagnostic apparatus comprising a catheter.
