The floating saddle disk brake (1) has a floating saddle (3) in a sliding mounting (5,8) at a fixed component (2) of the brake assembly. A brake pad (7) grips around both sides of the brake disk (6). An inductive unit (10) with a coil (12) and a magnetic core (5) establishes the sliding movement of the saddle to be evaluated remotely as a measure of the brake pad wear.
