A system for predicting the rollover risk for a vehicle monitors one or more vehicle parameters to compute an actual dynamic state. The invention applies a time extrapolation to the dynamic state to predict rollover probabilities and activate the protection systems in good time, e.g. air bags, roll over frames, seat belt tensioners etc. Typical dynamic parameters includes yaw and slewing movements and the protection system is activated if preset values for yaw and slew are exceeded by the extrapolation, within a time range of 200 to 2000 ms.
