The connector for flanged pipes comprises a base plate (2, 3) with apertures (7) for mounting the pipes, on which a pressure plate (4) with semicircular pipe seatings is mounted. Cooperating wedges (22) on the plates convert sideways movement of the pressure plate into downward force. Independent claims are included for: (A) use of the connector to couple heat exchangers, especially heaters or evaporators, to pipes, especially in vehicle heating systems; and (B) a method for changing heaters or evaporators in car heaters using it.
