Design calculation for blanks for sintered metal gears, e.g. for cars and other machines, uses input data determined from a specified final form and calculates local overmeasures correlating with expected surface compaction

A method of calculation for designing a blank for a gear made of sintered material (I), in which the input data are determined from a specified final form, one or more loading parameters for the gearing are determined depending on at least one usage condition for the final form, a local overmeasure is calculated for the blank which correlates with an expected surface compaction of the blank, and sub-surface loading on (I) also enters into the calculation. Independent claims are included for (1) a computer program; (2) a machine for calculating and/or carrying out surface compaction.
