Producing metal components by semi-hot forming of blanks made of an alloy with a superplastic structure comprises applying a pressure that is at least 20% below that required to forge a corresponding alloy without a superplastic structure and adjusting the strain rate to a value above 0.1/second, or by limiting the elongation of the blank to less than 50% of that achievable by superplastic deformation and employing strain rates that are at least 100 times those for superplastic deformation. An independent claim is also included for drive shafts, toothed wheels, pinions or profiles produced by a process as above.
