The method involves using a coordinate measurement device to determine spatial coordinates at a number of measurement points (52,54), determine an equivalent element for the object from the coordinates and determine the parameter using the equivalent element. It involves first determining a first equivalent conical element using the spatial coordinates, determining an approximately cylindrical intermediate element using the conical element and using the cylindrical intermediate element to determine an adjacent equivalent element from which the geometric parameters are determined. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a computer program product for determining geometric parameters of a conical measurement object (B) and a device for determining geometric parameters of a conical measurement object.
