The device has a vacuum holder for flat fixing of the element (14) to be scribed, a scribing cutting device with a tip (24) defining the scribe depth and a connected cutting blade (26). The cutting device has at least one associated first sensor (40,42) for detecting the distance between the cutting device and the vacuum holding device and a second sensor (46) for determining the respective scratch depth tolerance range.
