The invention relates to an electronic power supply device, in particular a switched-mode power supply to the energy supply of a protective device secured by a lower voltage load as well as a method for this purpose. The present invention furthermore relates to a device for securing a low voltage load against an overcurrent, as well as an auxiliary power unit for use with such a securing.The central idea of the invention is to be seen, to provide measures, which ensure that after detecting a fault, for example of an output short circuit, for a short time period, for example, 15 ms, such a high current is supplied, reliably and quickly that a protective device can be triggered. The period of time is chosen so that electronic components connected loads and feed lines will not be damaged, and are destroyed.
