The assembly to measure the passage profile of a three-dimensional object, e.g. a motor vehicle (5), has a transmitter (1) and a receiver (2) with a precisely controlled positioning system (4). The vehicle contour is scanned by a point beam (3) between the transmitter and receiver. The beams are each coaxially positioned on one of two parallel and diametrically opposed planes to the object vehicle, moved through a two-dimensional zone so that it is completely scanned. The beam is interrupted at the vehicle contour giving individual test points as points for a virtual image.
