Method for boiling an egg to different degrees of hardness comprises adjusting the required degree of hardness of the egg by an adjustment of temperature of the heated gaseous medium in a chamber (9) so that the adjusted temperature is selected higher than the required degree of hardness of the egg being simmered. An independent claim is also included for an egg boiler (1) comprising a housing (2, 3), a holder for the egg arranged in the housing, a device for heating the gaseous medium, an adjusting device (7) for adjusting the hardness of the egg and a control and/or regulating device.
